At Mountainsmith, we get a lot of calls and emails about bags we have made in the past. It is part of having a long heritage of making quality bags. The inquiries usually start with “I have a Mountiansmith “style name” I bought in 19** an it is still in good shape or has finally starting to show wear, etc” Mountiansmith has been making QUALITY bags since 1979. We love seeing some of the bags that come in from back in the day and have stood the test of time!
A recent email was from a fan of the old Mountainsmith Backcountry Office, he was bummed that Mountainsmith isn’t making this one anymore. If you are feeling the same sadness, lift up your head, we have two products that should satisfy your needs. Both these styles take inspiration from the Mountainsmith Backcountry Office and are now sized with modern electronics in mind. The Backcountry Office was a winner in it’s time, but do you really need a bag to carry that Windows 95 Compaq laptop around anymore?
1. Day TLS (our Tour TLS)– this is the lumbar pack that started it all. It was our first lumbar pack and is what all of our lumbar pack designs start, including the Backcountry Office. It’s most modern incarnation from 2012 includes a sleeve for your iPad and is the most popular choice in the office for carrying up to 15 inch laptops. It is Strapette compatible as well.
2. Ether – This 20L roll-top laptop carrier is going to me the most comparable product to the Backcountry office and another popular choice for those around the Mountainsmith office. This piece from the Mountainlight line is also Strapette compatible and features a hide-away waist belt. It is 3 liters bigger and 11 ounces lighter than the BC office, all while contained in a more svelte package.
