THE MOTHER OF ALL TENTS
This tent is boss. I bought it looking for a quality tent at a reasonable price that would be an upgrade from my beat up Colemans that handled multiple trips in sunny, dry locations. This tent is easy to set up and break down, fits into it's sack without multiple tries and curses, is sturdy but light, roomy enough for my queen size air mattress, giant sleeping bag, and my boo (yes I've become THAT camper) and yet packed small and light enough to be carry on luggage. The materials are a high quality, the seams are champs, and zippers tough. We took this out into the wilds of the Golden Road in Maine, where it rained for 3 days straight. Everything was wet except the inside of this tent. NOT A DROP. It also dried out quickly so we could set up later in a different spot. It handled a pretty windy thunderstorm without moving or getting wet inside AT ALL. There was no condensation. It can be a little tough to get in and out of, but keeping one side of the fly open helps with that and I wouldn't trade the high floor and entrance for less water resistance. I totally think everyone should own this tent. Seriously. Get it. Also, Mountainsmith customer service is amazing. They responded to all of my questions right away. High fives!
This is the best tent I have ever owned! Super easy to set up, and it's light enough to take backpacking! It is also totally waterproof, but you MUST stake out the fly per the instructions. Otherwise the fly lays against the sides of the tent and water drips in. We weathered a pretty severe wind/rain storm and stayed totally dry. I was a little skeptical when I bought it because it was less expensive and lighter than other similar tents. Turns out, it's just a better tent than all the rest!
I never write reviews, but I think this tent is worthy of my first. I've had it for over a year now, and it has thrived in at least 20 car camping trips in the southern Appalachians (GA and NC). A few weeks ago, the tent was given a thorough test in an overnight thunderstorm, and I was surprised to find there was not a single drop of water inside. The tent has plenty of space for two people and a big dog, or three big dudes. I couldn't be more content with this tent.
