A logo carved into the booth’s front desk welcomes visitors and gives them the feeling of Colorado as they enter the booth.

The results are in and the new Mountainsmith booth was named the People’s Choice Best of Booth Award Winner at this Summer’s Outdoor Retailer Show.  The first ever award, was organized by industry news magazine SNEWS via their facebook page.

Shortly after the booths were packed up and the show had emptied out, SNEWS announced that the competition was down to Gerber Gear, Costa Sunglasses, and Mountainsmith.  From there, it was up to the facebook fans to decide the final winner of the first People’s Choice booth award.  After a week’s worth of voting, Mountainsmith had emerged as the definitive victor.

The booth was also enjoying its first ever Outdoor Retailer Show.  The team at Mountainsmith has been planning out the new fixtures and layout for over a year, with designs starting with casual ideas and escalating to blueprints.  “The design was done completely in house,” says Product Line Manager Luke Boldman, “we wanted this booth to be our project.”

“One of the advantages of our small team is that we have the ability to take on tasks as a group, divide, and conquer,” adds President Jay Getzel.  “Everyone at the company had a role in making this new booth happen, whether that was in the design process, concept discussions, or just getting the booth where it needed to be, truly a group effort”

The crew wanted the booth to reflect the brands 34 year Colorado roots, and the consensus quickly became that the use of beetle kill pine would allow them to bring a bit of Colorado with them to the show in Salt Lake at the bi-annual Outdoor Retailer Show.  “The pine beetle epidemic is a sad reality for Colorado, but we were able to take this resource and create something beautiful,” says Jeremy Dodge, Sales & Marketing Coordinator at Mountainsmith.

Though the ideas came from the Mountainsmith team, the help of friends at True Hero Productions made the dream a reality.  “We told them our plan to use beetle-kill pine, give an industrial feel yet natural look; and True Hero made it happen,” says Sales Manager, Jonathan McFarland. To give that industrial blacksmith feel, Andy Held of True Hero, made the pack hooks out of rebar and the displays out of beetle-kill pine harvested near Evergreen, CO.

Even pack holders were made out of rebar, and shaped like a torso.

“It’s an awesome representation of our state’s over abundant natural resource” says Held of True Hero, a marketing company based in Frisco, ” what better way to represent the iconic Colorado brand of Mountainsmith. I am proud to have been a part of the process!”
