Two stars because the waist straps were sewn too short

Two stars because the waist straps were sewn too short. Apparently this was a somewhat common occurrence per Mountainsmith customer service when my issue was discussed with them. They had an immediate fix - a “fastex” style clip which was promptly shipped to me. Detaching the old waist belt clip and installing the newly provided clip in its place allowed me to fasten the waist belt. However, the clip “fix” prevent-shirts the ability to snug the waist strap as originally designed which is a bummer.

Great bag with 1 measurement I would change

Construction and Materials: 5/5
Adjustability: 5/5
Comfort and consistency: 3/5

Amazing bag so far. My only complaint so far is the material distribution and angle of the intended waist strap position at heavier loads. When I have a heavier pack, the bag, despite every possible configuration of load strap settings, tends to pull away and down from the body. This forces stress points at the front clasp location, making your walk feel more like you are pulling a small sled than having added weight pulled firmly against your lower back.

My guess is the optional shoulder straps would alleviate this issue, but I chose this bag specifically to move away from the posture tension associated with shoulder straps.

Specifically, I believe the top of the waist straps have too much material compared to the lower side. When experimenting with this, I chose to wear the bag upside down, and it immediately solved the way the straps force the weight orientation of heavier loads.

This isn’t a practical solution for obvious reasons, but I am considering flipping the straps…somehow.

I love hiking with this bag, but I want the waist strap measurements to be flipped vertically to force the load against the upper portion of the bag and solve sagging.

Slow customer service. Durable versatile bags

The Good: Durable, versatile, and for me quite comfortable with strappettes.
The not so good: customer service is pretty slow and take a surprisingly long time to remedy errors if you receive the incorrect product.

I have had a Tour bag for years with no problems. I use it for hiking, travel, and as a walk around town purse. I recently purchased a Day bag for bike commuting with my computer. I like the addition of the mesh pocket on the left hip and the larger pocket on the right. The back outer pocket could use a button or magnet to keep it from sagging open, that is an addition I plan to add myself.
Since they were on sale I bought a backup Tour in blue. Unfortunately the bag came in black. I emailed customer service the day I received the bag. first response from MountainSmith was several days and a couple emails after I first reported the error. The wrong bag was returned a couple days after I received the return shipping label, but I have yet to receive confirmation the replacement is on its way.
Initial order was almost 3 weeks prior to writing this review.

Great Product

I’ve had a mountain smith tour pack for 28 years. It finally ripped at the zipper. Waiting on customer service for a replacement. Great products from this company across the board. I also have several of their back packs.
