One of the industry's first lumbar packs, the Day is known for its function-first design. After 40+ years in our line; we've revamped this classic built with our Delta Wing Compression System and added more functionality for efficient storage on and off trail.
The original technical hiking lumbar pack marches on stronger than ever after 40+ years. Built with ultra-durable ripstop Nylon fabric, the Day lumbar pack is as comfortable as it is versatile. Whether you are a hiker, disc golfer, commuter, tailgater, park ranger, birder, etc. this pack has the carryingcapacity for all your needs. The large main compartment has a divider big enough for a tablet, large water bottle pockets on each side can easily hold 1L bottles, the outer pouch can hold essentials for easy access, and the Delta Wing Compression System helps keep the pack close to your lower back.
FEATURES

Front stash pocket with elastic cord compression
Strapette compatible (sold separately)
Interior foam padded sleeve for tablet carry
Smartphone compatible waistbelt pockets (Fits plus sized phones)

Inner SanctumTM interior zippered compartment for small valuables
These bags are the absolute toughest. I have used one for my everyday job bag, flight bag, and hiking bag for over 10years (and it’s still going strong). Decided to buy another just for hiking. Also the strapette is a must.

Lumbar pack
.much larger than I thought and unbalanced. Maybe a picture of the pack on a person would help

Terrific pack, one minor flaw
The pack replaces a 15-year-old Mountainsmith fanny pack—ooops, sorry, "fanny" isn't the term anymore: "lumbar" pack. It's large, which is why I love it. The only problem I have with it is that they've made the strap far more complex, and the buckle smaller and harder to clasp. Other than that, I'm happy with it and wear it all the time.

Nice, Could Be Better
I have the old MS Tour lumbar pack, which is ok, but I needed more space for cycling commute, hate backpacks. This MS Day lumbar pack has been really good so far. Love the zippered hip belt pocket, although I wish they’d put them on both sides. The elastic mesh pocket on left side is not secure enough. Deep main pocket, and enlarged zippered pouch inside this compartment is an upgrade. I don’t need the padded tablet pouch, so would be nice if they’d make this removable. The other smaller compartment is great for phone, EarPods, cords other smaller. Stuff sac in front definite upgrade over previous shock cord lashing system. Compression straps allow synching down of larger loads very helpful.
This would be 5 star upgrade if it weren’t for the downgraded buckle. Why they went smaller in this larger pack is a mystery to me. It’s virtually impossible to unlatch with cold, gloved hands. The buckle webbing/strap is WAY too long, enough for a Sasquatch. I’ve got straps for days, flapping in wind if I don’t tuck them in, just really poorly designed and way too small of a side release buckle. It’s too bad because I otherwise am really enjoying this “upgrade” pack.

Mountain Smith still a standalone product, 30 years as customer, passing on to next generation.
Had a Mountainsmith hip pack in my twenties and loved it traveling or when hiking in California back then. Fast forward thirty years, same great quality and one of the few products if any that have improved with time! Love it so much got them for all my kids
